Day 2 in Italy (Vatican Museum)

Did you ever wonder why September is the 9th month when it sounds like the Latin "septem" meaning 7? Likewise October, "octo", 8; November, "novem", 9; December, "decem", 10.

Well, we learned on our tour that it's because of Pope Gregory 13th. Ever heard of the Gregorian calendar? The Roman calendar had only 10 months and October was the 8th month! Hmmm, according to Wikipedia, it was Julius Caesar who added the extra two months. Ever heard of the Julian calendar? Actually, he is probably better known for Julian fries. Maybe tour guides don't know everything. But anyway, January was named for this guy, Janus, who has two heads. One looking back to last year and one forward to next year. Strangely, this was the most memorable thing I saw in the Vatican Museum.
